Community Youth Media

The Hanson Film Institute's program for community youth brings critical literacy of media and production knowledge to K-12 youth; introduces underserved communities to the tools of media; connects faculty to the greater Tucson community; and supports students in their extended learning about and efforts in media literacy.

  • Scholarships to marginalized youth to attend University of Arizona Youth University Video Camp: Filming & Writing
  • Collaboration with Tucson schools on youth media programs (not yet implemented)

Summer 2007

Six scholarships were awarded to Tucson city students in grades 7-12 to attend The University of Arizona Youth University Video Production and Editing Institute. School of Media Arts faculty member Dr. Beretta Smith-Shomade, who serves as a consultant for the program, coordinates this scholarship program.
